Beginning of July

The summer time heat and winds have set in.  The weather hasn't broke much for me to fish in the ocean and some days its even been rough inshore.  We are still picking at a few spanish mackerel and bluefish inside the inlet and behind Shackleford Banks.  Most days the fish aren't real schooled up so trolling spoons have been the best method.  Along with this we are catching a few sharks on the incoming tides with menhaden.  The port wall is producing a few nice flounder, mainly on finger mullet.  This is definitely something you need to be patience with and give it some time, but normally it will pay off with a nice flatty.  Also, there have been a lot of shrimp in the rivers and working the oyster bars hard are producing a couple red drum.  The bite hasn't been red hot but you can normally find a couple.
